Noises from technical equipment are primarily caused by the transmission of structure-borne sound. The structure-borne sound is carried through the fixing points in the ship’s body and is transmitted almost unimpeded. It is not possible to work out in advance where in the ship the structure-borne sound will become an audible noise problem. Structure-borne sound is undesirable on passenger ships, yachts and military ships.
